Music Magazine Mock Up - Front Page Progression

After designing the layout of my music magazine front page I have now finally constructed a mock up of my front cover page magazine. This is not my final front page music magazine design as this is just for practise use. I will soon construct a more professional and more productive music magazine front page using InDesign in the future. As you can see in the slide show below, I have showed the progression of how I constructed this mock up from the begging using the image of the non realistic artists as my main image. In addition I will include an evaluation in my next blog post discussing why I have used certain features and discuss the positive and negative aspects about the page.

Music Magazine Name

In order for me to create a successful music magazine, I need to be as creative as possible within my work and so I have been asked to come up for a name for my music magazine. I have decided to name my Magazine as IMM. Below is a Voki that explains why I have decided to use this name for my music magazine.

Mumford and Sons Interview

As an individual blog post I have decided to include an exclusive video based on an interview with one of my personal favourite bands of Mumford and Sons. This band is very much closely linked to my chosen genre of indie rock and so this contents could be a feature that I may want to include within my music magazine. To promote this content I may include it on my final front page in order to attract a wider audience to my magazine and strive me towards my journey into creating a successful music magazine as a whole.

Music Magazine - Front Page Design

I am now in the early stages of constructing my music magazine front cover. In order to construct my music magazine I need to plan the structure and the deigned layout of what my page will consist of when I am designing my front page. I will be using the InDesign adobe programme to construct my music magazine as this will offer a more advanced and professional way of designing my music magazine. Below is an screenshot image of how my magazine should be viewed with certain features that help to support the layout and design of the page, making it look more professional. I have used the InDesign programme to do this.

To construct my music magazine I have now become aware of a new software programme that is very similar to Photoshop. This new programme is called InDesign. InDesign is a more advanced computer programme that allows me to construct certain designs more productively. I am recently new to this programme so there is a lot I still have to learn about, however it does have similar features in comparison with Photoshop. I have included a video that shows the introduction to InDesign, explaining how it is used, why it is used and what the programmes main purpose is.

In todays lesson I decided to take a few mock up photographs for my music magazine front page. Below are the range of images that i photographed. I have used a variety of images so that i have a selection of images to choose from when I come to construct my mock up front page music magazine. These images were photographed in a photographic studio.

My Music Magazine - Images

Later on this week I am going to take some practice/mock up images using different types of camera angles for my music magazine. This is so I have a good outline as to what type of images I should use within my magazine pages. In order to do this I am going to use a Samsung HD camera and my i Phone camera to take my photographs. It is important that I make my images look professional and more appealing to my target demographic of indie music fans and therefore using a high definition camera would be suitable in order to achieve this outcome.


I now have an outline as what type of images I will want to use. For my Front Page I have decided that I want to display an image of my main artist that I want to promote to the reader. The main image of my artist will take up most of the music magazine front page to show that the artist is going to be the most dominant feature within the magazine itself and throughout. I know this because I have looked and analysed other music magazine front covers that do this. Below is an image that shows an example of how I want the main image of my front cover magazine to look like.

My Music Magazine - Genre

I have now recently finished within the research and theory based studies within my media lessons. Starting from now I have been told that I must start to think about what music magazine I am going to create. This includes knowing what genre my music magazine is going to be, what the name of my music magazine will be, what the style of my music magazine will be like, what features will I use in order to promote my magazine and how I will promote certain bands/artists within the magazine. 

I want to create a music magazine that is specifically linked to the genre of Indie Rock. Throughout my previous blog post I have looked at a range of music magazines related to this genre including NME and Q magazine front covers and pages as these magazines are related to my chosen genre. I have analysed a variety of music magazines front cover pages that present the genre of indie rock. Looking at a rage of music magazine front covers will give me a better insight and better understanding as to how my music magazine should be presented to the reader. Below are some examples that will help me within the construction of my music magazine. 

Evaluating My Research

Over the past few months I have been doing a lot of research consisting Music Magazines. I have learned and discovered a lot about music magazines. I have decided to use the software of Voki to talk about what I have learned within my media studies and what I need to do next in terms of creating my very own music Magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread.

Q Magazine - Final Analysis

As a final evaluation of the Q music magazine pages I have analysed, I have decided to make a prezi that explain the similarities that the pages have and how they link together. In this Prezi I have discussed certain aspects such as the image manipulation, the amount of text used on the pages and artists displayed on the pages.
